About Us

Campus Activities Today's November 1991 cover. Campus Activities Magazine® began in November 1991 as Campus Activities Today. Founder, W. C. Kirby, Jr., had spent eleven years with the NACA (National Association for Campus Activities™) and wanted to do something different than NACA's publication, Campus Activities Programming. With the support of a large number of agencies in the market, CAT met with immediate success by focusing almost completely on entertainment and related programming options. Mr. Kirby always felt students were more interested in what they had available to buy and how to buy it and his belief became a reality as agencies and artists flocked to support the publication. CAT prided itself on its independence and was not attached to any specific association. It immediately widened its distribution to every campus in America actively involved in programming regardless of their association with any organization. CAT's inaugural issue was February 1992.
Campus Activities Magazine's January 1998 cover. In January 1998, a new generation began as CAT became officially simply Campus Activities Magazine®. The name change came from talking with students and directors during a summer trip visiting campuses for CAM's popular series, Campus Activities LIVE! With the new look, the publication became much more diversified allowing buyers access to not only the top traditional and new campus artists but a wide variety of national talent that included speakers, comedians and variety performers. During the next decade not only would readers get a chance to participate in nationally sponsored shows but they would be the exclusive target audience for Dane Cook's "Tourgasm" (20 FREE Shows in 30 Days), meet Train, Fall Out Boy, Flogging Molly and Plain White T's at the pinnacle of their successes. Specific targeted buyers surged from 3,400 to over 4,000 and CAM introduced an interactive web edition.
Campus Activities Magazine's January 2012 cover. In January 2012, Campus Activities Magazine® began a new era with a new, more modern look and feel. In the midst of a national economic decline for print subscribers, CAM actually picked up readers. With a boost to almost 4,300 actual buyers, the publication had the most successful Reader's Choice Awards participation EVER. The National Awards process for schools, entertainers and agencies in the college market topped a ground breaking 53,400 votes. The first four issues of the new year featured NBC's "Whitney" co-star, Chris D'Elia; MTV's Hit Show, The Buried Life; Hot music from AWOLNATION, The Daily Show’s John Hodgman, and Campus Entertainer of the Year, Natalie Stovall. In June, CAM's new mobile app hit the Apple App Store for iPhone, iPod and iPad, with Retina display support. The Android app is not far behind, which will support Android phones and tablets offering similar features and functionality. Starting in August 2012 exclusive new content and video will be available on the web site.
