Roy Wood, Jr.

Author: CAM
August 25, 2008

How many days did you sit around daydreaming as a kid, wondering what could be the best job in the world? Astronaut, firefighter, rock star, President…. All of these are aspirations that fit the title of being the perceived “coolest” jobs in the world.

Roy Wood Jr. is a professional prank caller. How about that? Well, he’s actually a roy-wood-jr-spread-copy.jpgprofessional stand-up comic nowadays, but he started his career as a jokester doing what so many dinner hour telemarketers do inadvertently- ticking people off. “I did pranks for about six years on morning radio and I knew I was getting great laughs then. On a whim I put some of the tapes of these calls on my website with no real expectations of them doing anything major for me, just something to pass time and get content on my website. I did that for three years straight twice a month and got five or 600 hits a week with them,” he says.

iO was born out of necessity; giving a home, a form, and a direction to the natural evolution of improvisational comedy. By the time iO was founded in the early 80’s, improvisation had become both popular and stale. Dozens of companies were performing the now-standardized games that had been in use since the 50’s. There was a yearning from within the community to do more with the burgeoning artform that was palpable, and it was iO that harnessed and refined it.

Judah Friedlander is the Champion. The champion of what, you ask? judahf-final-99-copy.jpgThe World, of course. Champion of the world of what? Duh, he’s World Champion of The World. C’mon, he’ll tell you that himself.

“I’ve never been nervous in my whole life dude, it’s all cool,” he says in his semi-monotone and flatly confident voice. As a supporting player on NBC’s hit series “30 Rock” (with Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin), a

healthy stand-up career and a boatload of feature film roles under his belt, Judah has been the beneficiary of some great show biz exposure. Now, he gives an exclusive in-depth look into his undeniably interesting world for readers of Campus Activities® Magazine.

According to his website, the champ is well over 7 feet tall. He came across his first fortune as just a boy of three, when he found an errant million-dollar bill. He is a 12th degree black belt on over 4500 different forms of martial arts and a former player for both England and Brazil’s National Soccer teams. He is a former Navy S.E.a.L. and wears a prosthetic head. And that’s all before breakfast.

The final tally was 12,216 votes, more than SIX times that of 2006 andaward_opener.jpg nearly 2,000 more votes than 2007. The surge in voting came from the convenience of students being able to vote online. Online voting began in 2007 and this year the system was coordinated with vote verification by email address.

The trend toward LIVE NOVELTY continued for 2008, but all categories experienced increases in buyer participation.
