After one of the toughest campaigns ever by artists and agencies to get nominated, the 2012 AWARDS are set to be history making.

On the pages which follow, you will find a brief summary of the candidates in fourteen categories. You may fax or mail the ballot on the following page or you may vote online at CAMPUSACTIVITIESMAGAZINE.COM. Please remember that you do not have to vote in every category for your vote to be counted, but you must sign all paper ballots submitted and indicate your school or business. ONLINE ballots will be randomly checked for validity. ANY campus buyer can vote. Any artist or agency can vote. ALL BALLOTS MUST BE RECEIVED BY FEBRUARY 28, 2012. 2012 BEST PERFORMER: SMALL VENUE


AMANDA DUNCAN: In a black and white world of singer/songwriters, Amanda Duncan is a burst of color. As a spectator, you'll probably be impressed by her hummable melodies and powerful vocals but what she'd rather is that you find a little bit of yourself in her lyrics and leave a little happier than when you came in.


TALL HEIGHTS: Classically trained cellist, Paul Wright, soars soulful vocals over his cello. Tim Harrington sports a striking vibrato above folk and rock influenced acoustic guitar. Critics agree: it's the harmonies "vocal and instrumental alike" that create a sound and atmosphere more intimate, moving and memorable than the countless drums-and-bass indie set-ups on the scene today.


JOEL MEYERS: Joel Meyers, an interactive comedy illusionist. Performing a progressive brand of magic for celebrities and audiences of all types and ages worldwide, Newsweek says he quite simply "will capture your imagination." That's no wonder, because his intriguing blend of masterful stage presence and striking looks make Joel a performer you can't take your eyes off of.


PRESTON PUGMIRE: Beats, guitars, bass, vocal harmonies and the occasional deck of cards? How can all these sounds be generated by just one guy creating Art in front of your eyes and ears? For the last 4 years, Preston Pugmire has been engaging audiences all over the US with his unique, interactive looping performance. The most booked music artist of six college conferences, Preston is the fastest rising college touring act nationwide this year.

THE ASIA PROJECT: As an aspiring novelist/astronaut/oil painter/brain surgeon/ninja, Asia never thought spoken word poetry would be his calling. But here Asia stands: a cancer survivor who was won audiences throughout the country with a spoken word show that has been nothing less than an honest and always inspiring, sometimes gut-wrenching, and most often times comical buffoonery



2012 BEST PERFORMER: DIVERSITY ARTIST


BRIAN C JOHNSON: Brian C. Johnson is dedicated to the advancement of multicultural and inclusive education on college campuses nationwide. Within his several multicultural keynotes, Brian inspires critical conversations through the use of clips from popular films that gets students ready to tackle important issues about diversity. Brian incorporates serious issues with movies for an engaging, educational experience.

GUY BRANUM: Best known for his work as the "Staff Homosexual" on Chelsea Lately , he's written for G4, E!, MTV, and is a regular contributor to The Huffington Post. But mostly he's just a gay dude trying to make sure people realize there's nothing that scary about gay dudes. Guy is available to entertain your students, provide invaluable gal-pal advice, and talk about the unending thrill ride of being a homo.

MATT GLOWACKI: Is the most booked diversity speaker in the college market. He is incredibly excited to have the chance to teach new ideas about Diversity and Happiness on national stages once again this year. He would like to thank his wife and partner Shannon Mason for being the creative force behind the scenes, and all the students and advisors that believe in what we do to keep the wheels rolling along!

STAN PEARSON: Stan Pearson II is a Speaker, Diversity Ambassador & Motivational Comedian. He is a Spanish Speaking, Salsa Dancing edutainer who has found a way to connect with every demographic regardless of experience, town, race, religion, culture or socio-economic background. His focus is to be better today than you were yesterday.


MO AMER: Mohammed "Mo" Amer is an established standup comedian who is the first Arab-American refugee comic to perform for U.S. and coalition troops overseas, as well as with "Allah Made Me Funny"The Official Muslim Comedy Tour." His cultural background uniquely situates him to speak from the heart about the absurd problems of religion, terror, and the politics of our age through the lens of honest, endearing, personal stories.



2012 BEST PERFORMER: MUSIC ARTIST


MATT COREY: "Venturing far outside of the realm of traditional saxophone music, Matt Corey's Sax/DJ set features music by many of today's top artists. Fusing club and radio hits with raw energy and virtuosic instrumental mastery, Matt has been featured in performances in London, Walt Disney World, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and hundreds of clubs, colleges. He has opened for Dave Matthews Band, Lil Wayne, Mario, Average White Band, & O.A.R.

DIEGO VAL: Singing in both English and Spanish, as a teenager, he started appearing in a famous Peruvian T.V. show and by the age of 15, modeling, singing and surfing were garnering him nationwide attention. At 16, he won second place on American Idol Latin America. Now residing in Miami, he is growing rapidly in his country with his charming manner and latin-fused folk pop.

Grinels' distinctive mix of delicate prettiness and soulful grittiness has been heard on television networks like MTV and live at over 50 universities in the last year alone. The pitch-perfect performer has also collected countless accolades, including the honor of 2010 College Female Solo Artist of the Year.

SEVEN NATIONS: Amazing crowds of up to 10,000 or more, Seven Nations proves one thing, Bag Pipes rock! The name comes from the seven Celtic nations, including Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall, the Isle of Man and Galicia. The band tours extensively and has played in many diverse venues, from small bars to prestigious concert halls.They got their start in New York City in 1993 as a project of bartender Clan Na Gael.



2012 BEST PERFORMER: SPEAKER


JESSICA PETTITT: First Pluralism, then Multiculturalism, followed by Tolerance and then Diversity - now Social Justice. Nothing seems to be changing. Jessica does too and radically changed her approach to benefit campuses. She promises no drum circles, guilty tears, or finger pointing. She brings 10 years of Student Affairs work, stand-up comedy experience and national speaking to her mission to inspire change, dismantle oppression, and recognize our privilege.

GIRLS FIGHT BACK!: Girls Fight Back was created by Erin Weed after the murder of her friend, 21-year-old Shannon McNamara, at Eastern Illinois University in 2001. Since then the GFB speaker team (Erin, Heather, Megan and Bree) have taught a million women to become their own best protectors through personal safety and self-defense presentations.


JOHN CORVINO: Combining rigorous content with sensitivity and humor, Dr. John Corvino challenges audiences to rethink assumptions about gays, lesbians, and the moral debates surrounding them. Dr. Corvino is a philosophy professor at Wayne State University in Detroit; he is also known as The Gay Moralist, a weekly columnist for LOGO Online 365gay.com. Bottom line: he's funny and he makes you think.

TISH NORMAN: Known for her witty, entertaining style, Tish Norman delivers energetic programs that ignite change. With practical tips for success, Tish motivates students to try harder, aim higher and to create a better reality. Most of all, Tish gets students feeling good about what's possible, no matter what the student organization may be in.


ELAINE PASQUA: Elaine Pasqua has positively influenced more than a quarter of a million college students across the country over the past 15 years. Her entertaining, humorous, and uniquely interactive programs motivate students to assess the life-altering consequences of high-risk drinking and unprotected sex. She challenges students to prioritize their goals while partying responsibly and keeping each other safe.



2012 BEST PERFORMER: FEMALE ARTIST


ELAINE PASQUA: Elaine's ability to engage an audience with her infectious energy leaves college students talking for weeks! Her entertaining, eye-opening and uniquely interactive programs motivate thousands of students to assess the life-altering consequences of high-risk drinking and unprotected sex. Her hilarious commentary elicits strong responses from students.

JEN KOBER: Jen Kober lives to make people laugh. Originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana, Kober has taken her southern style sassiness to Los Angeles where she has quickly become a nationally recognized headliner - playing colleges, casinos and comedy clubs all over the country and bringing crowds to their feet with her original blend of stand-up, story telling, and improvised rock-n-roll comedy.

NATALIE STOVALL: Natalie's sound strikes a perfect balance of country and high-energy rock. She's not just a great singer; she also plays a mean fiddle. Natalie has opened for artists such as Little Big Town, Gretchen Wilson and was invited by the President Bush to sing God Bless America at the White House Correspondent?s Dinner. Peace. Love. Fiddle!

STACY PRUSSMAN: After being sent to an emergency room due to the effects of her eating disorder, Stacey Prussman knew her only choice was to seek help. 2012 BEST PERFORMER: MALE ARTIST


JASON LEVASSEUR: Jason LeVasseur has lived in Mexico, Belgium, North Carolina, Massachusetts, New Jersey and currently Nashville... but one thing has remained constant: the award-winning singer/songwriter's folk -tinged, pop/rock roots. Jason has gained a reputation as best college solo performer and songwriter. He has been awarded Campus Activities Magazine Reader's Choice Awards for both Best Musical and Best Small Venue Artist.

MARC ELLIOT: Marc Elliot knows the importance of understanding people's differences. Marc's speech is loaded with timely humor, powerful anecdotes, and fundamental lessons of tolerance to encourage audiences leaving them motivated, better-informed, and reflecting on their own lives. He shares his life story to convey the value of tolerance and the basic attitudes and behaviors that allow it to flourish.

SAILESH: Consistently accoladed "The Best Hypnotist in the World" by global media outlets such as MTV Europe, Sailesh has taken the art of live performance to a new dimension by engaging mass crowds in interactive and off-the wall comedy. Sailesh takes the audience on a journey tickling the mind and funny bone using hypnosis, improv, and music to create a whole lot of laughter and energy.

CHRIS JONES: He talks fast, moves fast and thinks fast because chrisjones, "one word" wants to be the fastest hypnotist in the world. After his first year chrisjones already has over 80 college shows under his belt. 2012 BEST PERFORMER: MAJOR ARTIST


AZIZ ANSARI: Aziz Ansari first came to audiences attention on MTV's hit sketch comedy series, "Human Giant." He was recently seen starring in the action comedy 30 Minutes or Less and wrapping up a standup tour called the "Dangerously Delicious Tour." Ansari is currently starring in the NBC series, "Parks and Recreation."


BREAKS8: Breaksk8 has amazed audiences around the globe with their unique style of breakdancing on wheels. Part of MTV's hit TV show "AMERICAS BEST DANCE CREW," breaksk8 competed against the top 10 crews in the nation. Judge JC Chasez said of the group, during Michael Jackson's thriller weel- "MichaelJackson was a superstar and Breaksk8 danced like superstars!" This one of a kind show is rocking the college market!

JAVIER COLON: Javier Colon won the inaugural season of The Voice on NBC this past June and recently released a new album called "Come Through For You." Hailing from Stratford, Connecticut, his acoustic soul style and charming personality have been a staple of the college music scene.


KE$HA: This 22-year-old newcomer's firecracker has both personality and determination. "I've always known I wanted to be a performer," she says. "There's video of me at age five, naked and covered in body paint, saying, "I'm going to be a rock star and there's no way anyone is going to stop me!" It's my calling. If I don't go for it, I'm going to feel like a tool when I'm 50." She is one of the few major performers who still relishes campus shows.

BOWLING FOR SOUP: One fine morning in 1994 when a thoughtful Von Erich awoke, stretched, and realized: "I want to start a band that's happy. After all, Von Erich, a former toy shop owner nurtured on Tammy Wynette, Sha Na Na, REO Speedwagon, Van Halen and Ozzy Osbourne, was a happy guy.

A PAIR OF NUTS: Emmy winning comedy duo A Pair of Nuts have invaded the college market with their one of a kind multimedia sketch comedy show. A 2012 NACA Nationals Mainstage selection, the Nuts' show consists of hilarious live sketches (think SNL, Whitest Kids) intertwined with off the wall short videos. With an ever growing fan base thanks to their online videos and live tours, there's a reason they were named "Hot Comedy" by Campus Activities Magazine®.

DAVE & ETHAN: Dave Ahdoot and Ethan Fixell created an internet phenomenon by challenging pairs of women to double date them, and documenting the hilarious results for YouTubers everywhere. 2012 BEST PERFORMER: ACTIVITIES PROGRAM


KENT STATE UNIVERSITY: Student Activities Council (SAC), the main student organization on campus, is responsible for initiating, funding and producing activities on campus that affect the entire student body. SAC is allocated an annual budget used to enhance student life and to supplement the activities of the other campus clubs. The president and vice president are chosen by election every March by the campus student body.

MIAMI UNIVERSITY OF OHIO: Miami University has two primary programming organizations; the Campus Activities Council (CAC) and Miami Entertainment (ME). CAC focuses on major themed events and ME combines Miami's late night programming with student center programming, and has a student run graphic Design organization. These organizations combined had over 50,000 participants

METHODIST UNIVERSITY: Student Activities is responsible for planning & implementation of all student entertainment and activities held at Methodist University. This includes comedians, novelty acts, homecoming, Spring Fling and movies. All full-time students are encouraged to participate in this open organization. Involvement in campus programs and activities is vital to a well-rounded education experience.

MICHIGAN STATE: UAB is MSU's premiere student programming organization whether it is a magician, concert, competitions, craft nights or films! UAB is comprised of over 50 general board members. The directors are undergraduate students. All directors oversee their committee responsibilities and volunteers. General board members are volunteers that attend meetings and participate in event planning and production.

UNIVERSITY OF AKRON: The Zips Programming Network (ZPN) is the all-campus programming board that sponsors activities like Homecoming, Family Weekend, Adult & Family programs, Movie Series and more. Residence Hall Program Board (RHPB) activities include Welcome Weekend, the Emerging Leaders program, Hall Fest, Sibs Saturday, Residence Life Cinema, road trips, novelty events, the Coffeehouse Series, and Entertainment Series.



2012 NATIONAL AGENCY OF THE YEAR


BASS/SCHULER ENT.: Bass Entertainment works with hundreds of colleges and universities around the country. A combination of award-winning acts and impeccable customer service has garnered the company a nomination for Campus Activities Magazine's "Agency of the Year Award" every year since Scott Bass and Chris Schuler founded the firm in 1999. BSE has racked up five wins, more than any other agency.

DEGY ENTERTAINMENT: Degy Entertainment is comprised of several music divisions representing top signed and independent music acts from around the world. FRESH VARIETY: Fresh Variety specializes in interactive and comedic acts that are a favorite on college campuses across the country. SOPHIE K ENTERTAINMENT: Sophie K is considers themselves more of a boutique agency for stand up comedians, bands and variety artists allowing them to pay closer attention to the artists and the customers. In business since 1999, this is a first time nomination for Sophie K and they can not thank the readers enough for voting for them. 2012 ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR


CHRISTOPHER CARTER: Christopher Carter has been called the world's greatest mindreader. But he's not psychic. He's just in the business of freaking people out. With well over 2000 campus performances to his credit, and numerous past Readers Choice awards under his belt, Christopher is one of the most sought after entertainers in the campus market.


CRAIG KARGES: "Craig Karges is the king of college campus entertainment!" CNN Headline News. Craig presents a mind-blowing show where tables float, minds are read, metal bends and your imagination is challenged because you won't believe your eyes. Craig has made over 4,000 performances in 18 countries on four continents as well as all 50 states and has made over 40 national television appearances.

MICHAEL KENT: Michael Kent is a comedian, magician and self-proclaimed smart@$$. His sarcastic, irreverent humor and baffling original magic have made him one of the most popular comedy magicians in the college market. Michael's audiences learn what it's like when a stand-up comedian performs (and occasionally pokes fun at) the art of magic.


NATALIE STOVALL: Natalie's sound strikes a perfect balance of country and high-energy rock. She's not just a great singer; she also plays a mean fiddle.
